NSCISD Technology Plan

Nixon-Smiley CISD has a technology plan in place. There are 3 main campuses and 2 alternative settings.  The district services 7 small communities including and surrounding the communities of Nixon and Smiley.  Total enrollment for the district is 1,051 students.   To serve these students and provide connectivity several goals were determined and strategies were development to meet these goals.  Goals include ensure access and equity for all students, provide appropriate and effective professional development, ensure integration of appropriate technologies to maximize learning and teaching, provide opportunities for community and family development, and provide necessary infrastructure to support learning and administration functions.

To ensure access and equity for all students, strategies and activities identified include needs assessments, district technology resources will be shared students, teachers and community members after school hours through community education classes at night, open-lab computer nights, and computer checkout when appropriate.

To provide appropriate and effective professional development the district is committed to having 100% of all instructional staff will participate in training, individual teachers will know their own status in relation to the STaR chart, and the district will provide long term and ongoing professional development opportunities for integrating technology into teaching and learning.

To ensure integration of appropriate technologies to maximize learning and teaching the district will expect that all teachers will integrate technology into teaching and learning in all content areas, provide access by staff and students the best available electronic information resources, and the district will facilitate periodic review of STaR focus areas.

To provide opportunities for community and family development the district will maintain and update a district website, specific trainings for staff on how to use the district communication tools available (email, GradeSpeed, teacher webpages are examples), and provide and maintain the infrastructure accessible to organizations like the Public Library and adult education programs.

To provide necessary infrastructure to support learning and administration functions the district will use a variety of funds to provide equipment. The district will also continue to evaluate access requirement, hardware, and software needs to insure that learners on all levels have effective access.

As I looked through this plan, I found it a little hard to follow and read, mostly because of the format.  If it were in a chart it might be easier to read.  I can see where we as a district are on track, but I also see where things are not being done as they are stated in the plan.  If a district puts something into its plan, does it have to follow through?
